Pokemon Go use leads to car accident

Of course, the last thing New York City needs is more distractions causing drivers to avert their eyes from the busy streets. But it seems that there is an endless stream of amusements and communication tools that people cannot put down, even after they get behind the wheel of a car. And the latest such contrivance is in the form of a new phone app that is currently extremely popular.

The application, Pokemon Go, is a game that has certainly found a place in many people's hearts, but it does not belong in their hands as they are operating a motor vehicle. A case in point is an incident that recently occurred in Maryland. Reportedly, a man was driving his car while busily engaged in playing the game. In doing so, he failed to see a halted vehicle in his path. As you would expect, what followed was a collision.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the hook of this story is what the negligent gamer hit: a Baltimore Police car. The officers belonging to the car were actually standing nearby when the accident occurred. One of the officers was wearing a body camera that caught the offending vehicle sideswiping the police car.

The officers then walked over to where the driver had stopped. The driver got out of his car and rather humorously expressed his dismay at playing the game while driving. But while this story was certainly comical, distracted drivers pose a grave danger to all others on or near the roads, especially pedestrians.

If you or a family member has been injured by a distracted driver, you may want to have a personal injury attorney help you hold the responsible party accountable. Typically, distracted drivers do not jump out of their cars and confess their sins the way the man in this story did. Nor are they caught in the act on a policeman's camera. But an experienced attorney could investigate the accident and gather evidence in an effort to get you the compensation you deserve.
