The streets of New York are often busy, overrun with vehicles and pedestrians. With so many people on the roads, it is hardly surprising that accidents are such a common occurrence. Their frequency doesn’t make them any more bearable, however, and the victims of a car accident often have to live with life-changing injuries.
A recent crash in Brooklyn rocked the community when it claimed the life of a young girl. The driver of a minivan is thought to have been fleeing a previous accident when he collided with two other vehicles. The impact tore the roof off one of the cars and left its passengers, including a 9-year-old girl, trapped.
After being cut free, the child along with two other passengers from her car, were taken to the hospital. Three people from the second car were also hospitalized. Sadly, the girl was pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining victims are all believed to be stable.
The minivan driver was arrested on charges of homicide and leaving the scene of two accidents. Before colliding with the two cars, he is believed to have been involved in a more minor collision, from which he drove off at speed when police attempted to stop him. The officers chose not to launch a pursuit.
Tragic accidents like this one are an unhappily common occurrence in and around New York. Drivers need to be constantly aware of their surroundings, as a minor slip is all it takes to cost lives. If you have been involved in a car accident, you may want to challenge the responsible party. An attorney can advise you and guide you through the process of seeking compensation for your injuries.
