New York construction worker killed in worksite accident

On Behalf of | Jul 2, 2014 | Premises Liability

The city of New York can have all kinds of hazards, from wet floors to unsafe pedestrian crossings to dangerous animals. Some of the hazards are accidental, and some of them are just byproducts of the big city, such as construction zones. As New York City continues to grow and expand, more construction is required, but construction sites can often present dangerous property conditions, even to trained workers. Most of the time, reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the safety of construction workers, but this sadly is not always the case.

A tragic work-related accident occurred in another part of the state, upstate New York, near the end of June. A man was killed while performing construction work at an industrial complex. Not much in the way of details has been released regarding the accident, but we do know that a crew of six was attempting to fill an opening on a building’s fourth floor with an industrial air exchanger at the time it occurred. Construction on the site has since been halted.

Sometimes, tragic workplace incidents are just pure accidents, and perhaps this is such an instance. However, construction zones tend to have many occupational hazards, and sometimes workers are not properly made aware of them, or reasonable precautions are not taken to ensure safety. In such situations, a tragic accident may be an instance of premises-related negligence which could be grounds for a premises liability case.

Premises liability cases are a type of personal injury case in which injured individuals can seek compensation if they were victimized by a preventable, dangerous situation on a property. Property owners have a responsibility to fix dangerous situations or at least take measures to ensure that people are not injured until the situation can be fixed. If an accident has occurred on another person’s property that has caused you to get injured or a loved one to die, and you feel as though the accident could have been prevented, you may want to speak to an attorney to see if a premises liability claim would be an appropriate option for you.
