New York residents injured by slew of accidents

On Behalf of | Mar 6, 2016 | Bicycle Accidents

New York City is famous for many things: impressive skyscrapers, world-class entertainment, high-profile residents and more. However, it is infamous for just as many things, and perhaps the most infamous aspect of life in the Big Apple is driving. Whether you live in New York or you have visited, you probably know well just how difficult it can be to maneuver around the roads in the city. Unfortunately, it’s a recipe for disaster.

This recipe boiled over in massive way recently, when five accidents occurred all across the city, injuring two people and killing three. All of the accidents are currently being investigated, but police have confirmed that the accidents involved pedestrians and bicyclists who were struck by hit-and-run motorists. Among the fatalities were an elderly man who was crossing Webster Avenue when he was struck, a middle-aged man who was retrieving items from his car and a biker who was hit by a gold sedan.

The statistics behind pedestrian accidents and bicyclists are alarming. It’s only two months into the year, and already nearly 20 pedestrians have been killed, and at least three bicyclists have suffered fatal injuries as well. Hundreds of pedestrians have been injured, despite the fact that fatal pedestrian traffic accidents have been dropping for two years straight.

New York City can be a dangerous place for many reasons, but perhaps most notable among the dangers is the risk of injury on the road. If you have been injured in a pedestrian or bicycle accident, consider meeting with an attorney to help you learn more about your rights. You could be entitled to compensation for your injuries.
