The eye injury risks of laundry pods to young children

Eye injuries to young children can come about in a range of ways. This includes chemicals splashing into a child’s eye. Among the household products that contain chemicals that can be quite harmful when they get in a child’s eyes are laundry detergent pods. So, eye injuries are among the things that can result from a young child getting their hands on such a pod and the pod bursting.

A recent study suggests that laundry-pod-related eye injuries to young children have gone up considerably in recent years.

The study reviewed National Electronic Injury Surveillance System data to look at the occurrence levels of emergency room visits for such injuries among preschool-aged children for the past few years. According to the study, in 2012, there were only 12 such emergency room visits. In 2015, the number of such emergency room visits by such children was not in the realm of handfuls, but instead in the realm of hundreds. Specifically, the number for that year was 480 visits.

These statistics underscore how important it can be to keep laundry pods out of the hands of young children. Steps parents can take on this front include storing laundry pods in a place their kids can’t get to them.

When their child suffers an eye injury from a laundry pod or other household product, a parent may have many questions regarding whether there are any legal actions they can take to try to get their child compensation for their injury. Getting the right answers and information when it comes to such questions can be quite important. So, promptly speaking to a skilled personal injury lawyer about the injury their child suffered and the circumstances surrounding it is something a parent may want to do after their child suffers harm to their eyes from a household product.
