Four ways to prevent motor vehicle accidents

On Behalf of | Oct 17, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Drivers in New York and every other state are concerned about road safety. The unfortunate truth is that every seven seconds, someone is injured in a car accident. However, there are a couple of ways that drivers can prevent motor vehicle accidents from occurring.

One major rule that everyone should follow to prevent accidents is to never use a phone while driving. Unless hands-free Bluetooth technology is being used, texting and answering phone calls can lead to disastrous consequences. It only takes a few seconds for a driver to miss something that can cause a serious accident.

Maintain at least one hand on the steering wheel at all times. When sudden turns emerge because of road obstructions, the driver will need two hands on the steering wheel. This underscores the importance of not being distracted while driving.

Regular vehicle maintenance should be at the top of every driver’s priority list. Engine malfunctions can cause serious problems while on the road. Other things to regularly inspect are the brakes, tires and airbags.

While everyone knows the importance of avoiding drinking and driving, it is still a huge problem. Around 10,000 individuals die every year because of drunk driving. No one should ever get behind the wheel when they are under the influence of alcohol and even certain prescription drugs.

It can be scary to go through a motor vehicle accident. If there are significant injuries, the crash victim may decide to speak with a personal injury attorney. Legal counsel could provide advice and even represent the client in court if necessary. They could help the client draw up documents and possibly use eyewitness reports and surveillance footage to prove who is at fault in the accident.
