Make sure restaurants are safe for patrons

On Behalf of | Apr 16, 2021 | Slip-and-fall Accidents

A slip and fall accident in a restaurant may leave patrons with severe injuries. Restaurant owners need to take steps to prevent these accidents.

Simple precautions can ensure that people are safe at restaurants.

Maintain the outdoor space

According to Total Food Service magazine, people may slip and fall before they enter the restaurant. Staff members should make sure that the outdoor space is safe for patrons. Are the sidewalks and doors well lit? Are there slip-resistant mats on both sides of the doors?

People should also pay close attention to the curbs and sidewalks. Cracks and uneven pavement may cause people to trip. If restaurant owners notice these hazards, they should fix them as soon as possible.

Identify potential trouble spots

People may be more likely to slip in areas that regularly see moisture. According to EHSToday.com, people should take extra precautions to make sure that these areas are safe for patrons. Bathroom floors may quickly become slippery. An employee should check restrooms on a regular basis to clean up spills. Restaurant owners should also position towels right next to the sink so people do not drip water on the floor after washing their hands.

Additionally, people should pay close attention to their buffet. Food, salad dressing and beverages may fall on the floor and become slipping hazards. Employees should regularly clean around the buffet so that no one slips.

Invest in floor mats

Over time, mats can erode and may slide around or scrunch up when they get wet. People should inspect the floor mats on a regular basis. If mats no longer grip the floor, restaurant owners should purchase new ones.

Even with the best precautions, people may still slip and fall inside a restaurant. However, restaurant owners will know that they did everything possible to prevent these incidents.
